My political awakening began when I was a sophomore in college. Much like the young people today are enamored
by Obama, I was passionately for Kennedy. I worked on his campaign and was overjoyed when he won.
When I was about 21 or 22, I joined the NAACP in Morgantown, W.VA working for integration and racial justice
in the heart of Ku Klux Klan territory. My civil rights work led naturally to anti-war protest and advocating
for social justice for the poor and disenfranchised. In the era before Voter Registration lists, I worked on
the McCarthy campaign in 1968, writing down the names of registered Democrats during my lunch hour.
I continued my work in community organization among the poor and minorities throughout the 70's and 80's and
working for the Democratic Party and the League of Women Voters on voter registration, campaign forums and various
issues and causes. In the 90's my husband and I moved to Delaware where we became active in the Democratic Party.
I worked with Gov.Tom Carper, Lt.Gov Ruth Ann Minner and other party notables. I served on the Governors
Council on Teen Pregnancy, worked on campaigns at each election and was active in the Democratic Women's Club.
We moved to Los Angeles in January 1998 when our granddaughter, Isabella, was born. Living in Burbank
for two years while waiting for our house to sell back in Delaware, we became active in the 43rd & 44th CD politics
and were faithful members of the Verdugo Hills Democratic Club, working on Barry Gordon's campaign.
I also wrote and directed a very successful show entitled "The Rise and Fall of the Rogan Empire," which made
$12,000 helping to defeat Jim Rogan and elect Adam Schiff. For four years I served on the Board of the Friends
Committee on Legislation (FCL). We moved to Santa Clarita in 2000, became active in the Democratic Alliance
for Action (DAA) and worked on local environmental and social justice issues such as the establishment of
a permanent Cold Weather Shelter.
I served as a delegate to the State Democratic Convention for six years. In 2004 I became Chair of the
38th AD Committee and was named the California Democratic Party Region 13 Volunteer of the Year in 2005.
In 2006 I became an elected member of the Los Angeles County Democratic Party (LACDP) and in 2007, the state
California Democratic Party(CDP) Executive Board. I serve on both bodies' Legislative Committees.
I am chair of our state chartered Get Out the Vote (GOTV) organization, Democratic Neighbors of the
38th AD (DN38), and am chair of our $CV Clean Money for Better Government committee. I have worked on many
campaigns and am very active in numerous Democratic clubs/organizations. In 2005 another show I wrote and
directed, "The Buck Stops Here," toured LA and Ventura County as my contribution to stop "Arnie's" disastrous
propositions.
I am running for the 38th AD assembly seat against Cameron Smyth (R) because I want to restore the balance
between Corporate wants and the people's needs. I believe there are serious problems that greed,
selfishness and lack of vision have created but that can be solved by people of good will and
determination. Please join me in my campaign to solve these problems for our children's brighter future.
